This morning, President Obama signed the Every Student Succeeds Act into law. “This is an early Christmas present,” he said, calling the bipartisan agreement “a Christmas miracle. I love it when we’re signing bipartisan bills.” The bill passed in the House on December 2 with a vote of 359 to 64 and passed in the Senate on December 9 with a vote of 85 to 12.

“This a good example of how bipartisanship can work,” President Obama continued. “That’s not something you see too often in Washington…There was no grandstanding, no posture, just a lot of good, hard work.”

“This law comes at an important moment,” the President continued. “We all know there’s a lot more work to be done. High-quality education is a prerequisite for success. Our competitive advantage depends upon whether students can seize the opportunities of the future.”
